Cardiff ATRiuM: £1,000 Bursaries to Cannes Film Festival for Skillset Screen Academy Wales Students Deadline 31 March 2008

Welsh Film Students, have you made your application to attend Cannes Film Festival 2008?



Deadline: 5pm 31st March

There are three festival bursaries of £1,000 each available to current MA Film (UWN), MA Film Producing and Business Management (UoG) and MA Moving Image (UoG) and Animation students for the Cannes Film Festival 2008.

"The festival is where the film industry meets to do business. Every year hordes of producers, directors, buyers and sellers and unknown hopefuls descend on the seaside town all eager to make the deal of a lifetime."

"Many of them will spend their time wheeling and dealing in hotel suites across Cannes, and will leave with contracts and contacts but without having seen a single film in the competition."

The bursaries are to cover accreditation, travel, accommodation and mentor expenses.

SSAW will organise the accreditation of those attending and will discuss travel and accommodation arrangements with those chosen.



The Deadline is the:

31st March. You can e-mail your application but please mark it CANNES.

For those of you who have completed films and you are wanting to submit for a place -- Then please drop those off at the Screen Academy Wales office.
 
PLEASE NOTE: The pitching session – where you will be required to pitch your film or a film idea to a panel of industry professionals will be Wednesday 2nd April from 11 – 4 p.m. but you will be notified of your time before the day.


 
Please also note that we are opening the application to graduated MA students – who graduated in the last year – so do send an application in if possible -

Payment of bursary

If you are awarded a bursary, costs will be reimbursed to you on production of original receipts.

Credit/debit card receipts must be accompanied by till receipts.



Receipts must be submitted within two weeks of return from the festival to:

Sara Herritty at SSAW, University of Wales, Newport, PO Box 179, Newport, Gwent NP18 3YG. Your bursary will be paid by cheque within two weeks of receiving receipts.

You will need to compose a brief statement containing -- Your Reason for attending Cannes Film Festival:

Please indicate in 300 words (max) statement why SSAW should support you to attend, what you expect to gain from the experience and how you see it relating to your development on your course.

A panel of designated mentors will assess your application and you will then be invited to a pitching workshop.

For those students that have made a film, please submit this with your application to the Screen Academy office address indicated above

You will then be asked to attend a pitching workshop that will be taking place Wednesday April 2nd 2008.
